Name of the veterinary medicinal product: PENTOMAST LC, intramammary suspension for cattle.

Qualitative and quantitative composition: A 5 g syringe contains:

Active substances: Procaine benzylpenicillin - 100,000 IU, Streptomycin sulfate - 100 mg, Neomycin sulfate - 100 mg, Prednisolone - 10 mg.

Pharmaceutical form: Intramammary suspension. White oily suspension. Clinical features: Target species: Cattle (dairy cows).

Indications for use, specifying the target species: Indicated in the treatment of acute or subacute mastitis in lactating cows, accompanied by pain and inflammation, caused by bacterial infections sensitive to the administration of penicillin, streptomycin and neomycin.

Contraindications: None.

Special precautions for each target species: During the treatment, the health of the animal must be constantly monitored by the veterinarian.

Special precautions for use:  Use of the product must be based on susceptibility testing of bacteria isolated from animals.

If this is not possible, the therapy must be based locally on local epidemiological information (at the regional, farm level) about the susceptibility of the target bacteria. Use of the product outside of the instructions provided in the SPC may increase the prevalence of resistant bacteria and may decrease the effectiveness of treatment with other antimicrobials due to the potential for cross-resistance.

Official and local policies regarding antimicrobial products will be taken into account when using the product.

Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals: During the injection of cattle, protective gloves must be used to avoid contact of the product with the skin.

Penicillins and cephalosporins can cause hypersensitivity after injection, inhalation, ingestion and skin contact.

Hypersensitivity to penicillins can cause adverse effects to cephalosporins and vice versa. Allergic reactions to these substances in some cases can be serious.

People with known hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins should avoid contact with this product. Handle this product avoiding any exposure, taking all recommended precautions.

After exposure, if symptoms such as skin rash develop, seek medical advice immediately and show the product leaflet to the doctor.

Swelling of the face, lips and eyes or difficulty breathing are more serious symptoms and require immediate medical attention. Wash your hands after use.

Adverse reactions (frequency and severity): None known. Use during pregnancy, lactation or during the laying period:The product can be administered to cattle during pregnancy or lactation. Interactions with other medicinal products or other forms of interaction: None known. Amounts to be administered and route of administration: The contents of a syringe must be carefully infused into each affected quarter, at the level of the nipple canal, immediately after milking, once a day, for 3 consecutive days. Aseptic precautions must be taken at each use.

Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes), as appropriate: Not applicable. Waiting time: Offal and organs - 7 days Milk - 108 hours (4.5 days).

Do not consume the milk produced by the animal during the treatment. Animals under treatment will not be sacrificed for human consumption. ATCvet code: QJ51RV01. Pharmacodynamic properties: Procaine benzylpenicillin exerts its action on growing bacteria by inhibiting the formation of the cell wall. Streptomycin sulfate and neomycin sulfate are aminoglycoside antibiotics that penetrate the cell membrane, then attach to the 30S ribosomal subunit. They induce wrong interpretations of the genetic code, as a result of the changes produced at the messenger ribonucleic acid (m-RNA) level. Prednisolone is a glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory properties. Pharmacokinetic features: The product is a combination of 3 antibiotics (procaine penicillin, streptomycin sulfate and neomycin sulfate) with prednisolone. Procaine penicillin, streptomycin sulfate and neomycin sulfate have a reduced penetration into tissues in this form and are eliminated through milk at the first milking. This combination is useful for local treatment in the mammary gland. Antibiotic residues can be detected in milk for up to 36 hours. The syringe can be used only once. Partially used syringes must be disposed of safely. Nature and composition of the primary packaging: White 5 g low density polyethylene syringes, closed with a low density polyethylene cap, packed in a box of 24 disposable syringes.
