Ivermectin is a derivative of avermectin, isolated from the product obtained by fermenting an actinomycete called Streptomyces avermitilis. In nematodes, ivermectin stimulates the development of GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid) from the neuronal synapse and intensifies the connection of GABA to special receptors, thus interrupting the transmission of nerve influx to nerve junctions, paralyzing and killing the parasite. In arthropods, the interruption of nerve influx occurs at the level of the neuromuscular synapse. This leads to paralysis and death of the parasite. TARGET SPECIESHorses.
